The prefix is the non-law half
BA LLB, BBA LLB, and BCom LLB are not three professions. They are familiar titles for a . BA points at arts and social-science papers. BBA points at business-administration papers. BCom points at commerce papers. The LLB is the law component that, if the degree is properly recognised, can later support a request for enrolment as an advocate. If you are choosing between integrated study and a , that is a different comparison. This page assumes you are already at the integrated door and arguing about the letters.
Universities do not use the titles in a single national way. One BA LLB is heavy with political science. Another is heavy with history. One BBA LLB teaches more accounting than another. The scheme is the comparison that counts. Confirm on the official authority for the year you are applying, which here means the university's published scheme and the admission notification, including the Consortium's brochure if the seat is a CLAT seat. The is about the test, not about which prefix is fashionable.
How to compare three schemes without a winner
Put the law papers in one list and the non-law papers in another. The law list should look related across the three titles: contracts, constitutional law, criminal law as the university prescribes it, property, and the rest of that scheme. If a title's law list is strangely thin, that is a question for the scheme and for recognition, not a reason to admire the prefix. The non-law list is where your preference is allowed to be personal. You will attend those classes for years. Pick the ones you can stand.
What the prefixes do not assign
BBA does not assign you to a company secretariat. BA does not assign you to a criminal court. BCom does not assign you to a tax firm. Those are later jobs, discussed without placement rates in . Company law as a student subject is introduced in . Reading that note will not be easier because your prefix said BBA, and it will not be closed to you because your prefix said BA. The Act is the same Act.
Recognition still sits on the law degree
The Bar Council of India looks at legal education standards and at universities whose law degrees can qualify for enrolment. It is not running a contest between arts and commerce. A preferred prefix at an unrecognised arrangement is a bad trade. Check the campus in the Council's public material and in the university's own statements. Do not accept "all BBA LLB are approved" as a sentence. Approval is institutional and course-specific. A title used by one university is not a title used lawfully everywhere just because the letters match.
A method, not a ranking
Score the schemes on three private questions. Will I attend the non-law papers, or will I resent them by year two? Are the law papers and the clinical or drafting work described clearly? Can I verify recognition? Add cost only from the institution's figure, which this note will not supply. Do not add a column for "corporate value." You do not have the data, and neither does a poster. If two schemes tie, choose the teachers and the city you can actually live in. City is your life. It is not a search page this academy will spin out for every district.
If a counsellor ranks the prefixes nationally, ask which year's schemes were read. A rank without schemes is a mood. You are allowed to ignore it. You are not allowed to invent a tie-break the Bar Council did not publish.
A hypothetical about three brochures
Hypothetical. Three cousins want law. One likes novels and politics, one likes balance sheets, one likes management classes. A single coaching ad says BBA LLB is the "corporate choice" and prints a salary. The salary has no source. The cousins already know their own tastes. The ad is asking them to ignore the tastes and buy a story.
They collect three schemes from universities they can realistically apply to. The politics-minded cousin finds a BA scheme whose non-law papers match the taste, and whose law papers are intact. The accounts-minded cousin does the same with a BCom scheme. The third cousin reads a BBA scheme and also checks that the campus is not merely using the letters. Each one writes the admission test that campus uses. They do not switch prefixes to chase the unsourced salary. The salary was the only part of the ad that was doing commercial work. The schemes were the part that could teach them.
A checklist before you tick a title
Tick a title from a scheme, not from an ad. 1. Write the full degree title the university uses. 2. List non-law papers and mark the ones you would resent. 3. List law papers and see whether the core is actually there. 4. Check recognition in official material for that campus. 5. Name the admission test or the university's own process. 6. Delete any job or salary claim that has no source you can open. 7. Confirm on the official authority for the year you are applying, including the year's brochure if the seat is through the Consortium.
If the non-law list is missing from the website, ask the university. Do not fill it with what a different university teaches under the same letters.
The catalogue does not offer these degrees
Kanoons Academy does not currently list a separate LAWCET, CLAT, or AP LAWCET batch in the catalogue; these notes are study material, and counselling is via . It also does not list BA LLB, BBA LLB, or BCom LLB programmes. The nearest catalogue course is . That course teaches how to read an Act, a rule, and a judgment note. It is not a prefix, and the button on this page uses the course's own name.
Pick the non-law papers you will attend and the law degree you can verify. Leave the salary on the advertisement where you found it.
Frequently asked questions
Is BBA LLB better for corporate work?
Not as a rule. Corporate teams hire people who can read contracts and company law. A business prefix may make some non-law papers more familiar. It does not create a job.
Is BA LLB only for litigation?
No. The prefix does not assign you to a court or away from one. Litigation depends on enrolment, training, and the work you later take, none of which this prefix chooses for you.
Is BCom LLB the same as a commerce degree plus LLB?
It is an integrated scheme, not automatically the same papers as a standalone BCom followed by a 3-year LLB. Compare the schemes if both are options.
Which prefix does CLAT admit?
CLAT is an admissions test. The degree title is what the university offers. Read the Consortium brochure and that university's scheme for the year's titles.
Do all three have the same recognition test?
Recognition is about the law degree and the university, under Bar Council of India standards. The prefix does not exempt a campus, and it does not condemn one. Check the campus.
Can the academy enrol me in BBA LLB?
No. There is no integrated degree in the catalogue. The nearest course is Reading a Statute.
