CLAT belongs to the Consortium, not to a State council
The CLAT exam is the Common Law Admission Test organised in connection with the Consortium of National Law Universities. The official home to start from is the Consortium's own site. A State law entrance, including the Telangana test people still call TS LAWCET and the Andhra Pradesh test called AP LAWCET, is a different conducting authority and a different admission use. If you only wanted a State university seat, you may be in the wrong guide. The family name is sorted in . This page stays with the Consortium. Confirm on the official authority for the year you are applying. Old notifications remain online and do not bind a later cycle.
The point of CLAT, in ordinary words, is admission to the National Law Universities that participate, and to any other programme the year's information expressly includes. It is not a national licence to walk into any law college. It is not a scholarship by itself. It is not enrolment at the Bar. Hold those boundaries while you read, or a brochure about a paper will swell into a fantasy about a career.
What to download before you study
Download the year's notification and the information brochure from the Consortium, and save them with the year in the file name. Read who may apply, which route you are on, and how the Consortium describes the test. Undergraduate and postgraduate routes are not interchangeable. A candidate leaving school is usually looking at an integrated law course. A candidate who already holds a law degree may be looking at a postgraduate route. The note explains that degree shape. It does not replace the brochure's eligibility block.
The brochure is the pattern
This guide will not state how many questions there are, how long the paper is, what it costs, or how ties are broken. Those sentences live in the year's brochure. Your job is to copy them onto one card with page numbers. If a sentence is missing, the card says missing. A coaching site's infographic is not a missing sentence found. When a corrigendum appears, the card changes. The skill of reading that card is the same skill the later notes use for and .
Universities are a list, not a vibe
Which National Law Universities participate, and on what terms, is a list the Consortium publishes. This page will not reproduce it, because a reproduced list becomes wrong quietly. After you read the official list, a separate question remains: whether the university's law degree is recognised for the purpose you have in mind, including, later, enrolment as an advocate under Bar Council of India standards. An entrance brochure does not answer recognition by poetry. Read the Bar Council's public material and the university's prospectus for the year of admission.
How CLAT study differs from State LAWCET study
State booklets and the Consortium brochure can both mention law, current events, and reasoning. That overlap tempts people to keep one notebook. Do not. CLAT items, as candidates meet them in recent cycles, reward sustained reading of passages. A State aptitude item may be shorter. The note trains the passage habit for this brochure only. It is not a claim that every future paper will look like a memory of last year. If the brochure changes the task, the task changes. Your loyalty is to the brochure, not to a classroom legend about "what CLAT loves."
Also separate admission arithmetic from paper skill. Cutoffs, seat matrices, and counselling mechanics are time-sensitive and are not taught as steps here. If you need them, you will read them on the Consortium's pages for the year, not in a static article that would be false by the next cycle. A guide that pretends to be the counselling manual is a liability.
A hypothetical about one nickname, two forms
Hypothetical. Anika in Hyderabad wants a National Law University. Her neighbour is filling a Telangana law entrance form for a three-year LLB after a degree. A shared tutor hands them one booklet. Anika almost highlights the neighbour's eligibility because both dreams are "law entrance." The neighbour's form cannot make her eligible for CLAT, and her Consortium brochure cannot answer his State form.
They split the table. Anika's cover says Consortium, the year, and the route she is actually applying for. His cover names the Telangana process. They may both practise careful reading. They may not share a single eligibility column. When Anika's uncle asks for a safe rank, she has nothing honest to quote. This guide refused that number on purpose. She can quote the brochure's description of the test, and she can say she will confirm it again before she pays any fee the brochure states.
A checklist for the first reading
Read before you revise. 1. Open the Consortium site and download the year's brochure for your route. 2. Write undergraduate or postgraduate in the brochure's words. 3. Copy eligibility conditions, including provisos, without adding a State LAWCET condition. 4. Copy the test description and leave every count blank until the brochure prints it. 5. Note that a rank is not a college allotment and not a Bar enrolment. 6. Park counselling steps until you are reading the year's official admission pages. 7. Confirm on the official authority for the year you are applying, and write the date you checked.
If a sentence in your notes has no page number in the brochure, delete it. Memory of a topper interview is not a page number. The interview can motivate you. It cannot amend the test.
Study notes, not a CLAT product
Kanoons Academy does not currently list a separate LAWCET, CLAT, or AP LAWCET batch in the catalogue; these notes are study material, and counselling is via . The nearest catalogue course is . That course teaches how to read an Act, a rule, and a judgment note. It is not a CLAT batch, and the button on this page uses the course's own name. Careful reading is why it is the nearest honest course.
There is no predicted cutoff, no college predictor, and no guaranteed NLU. The only campus the catalogue records is a Hyderabad classroom, with its address published when a batch is confirmed. That classroom is not a CLAT centre invented for this article. For a course that exists, use the contact page. For the year's test, use the Consortium.
Frequently asked questions
Is CLAT the same as LAWCET?
No. LAWCET names State tests, notably in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, under their higher-education councils. CLAT is conducted in the Consortium of NLUs' process. The brochures are different instruments.
Does CLAT admit me to every law college in India?
No. It is aimed at the National Law Universities and any other institution the year's information actually lists. A private college's own process is not CLAT unless that year's official list says so.
Undergraduate or postgraduate?
The Consortium publishes more than one test purpose across cycles, including undergraduate and postgraduate routes. Read the brochure for the route you want. Do not assume one pattern covers both.
Will a CLAT rank make me an advocate?
No. A rank is an admission input. Enrolment as an advocate is later, with a State Bar Council, under Bar Council of India rules, after a recognised law degree.
Does Kanoons Academy run a CLAT batch?
No. There is no CLAT batch in the catalogue. The nearest course is Reading a Statute. These notes are study material. Counselling is on the contact page.
Can you tell me the safe score?
No. A safe score is a guess about a future cohort. This note will not print one.
