What Is a 5-Year Integrated Law Course?

One programme, two kinds of papers
A 5-year integrated law course takes a student from higher secondary school into a law degree without a separate bachelor's degree in between. The word integrated means the non-law study and the law study are arranged as one scheme, not that you collect two unrelated certificates by accident. The non-law prefix is the part people argue about: arts, business administration, or commerce are common. The law papers are the professional core. How many of each, and in which year, is the university's scheme. This note will not publish a credit table, a fee, or a rank cutoff.
The other common door is the , which waits until you already have a degree. If you are choosing between them, use the rather than a slogan about prestige. If you are choosing among BA, BBA, and BCom prefixes, use . Prefix is not destiny. Confirm on the official authority for the year you are applying: the university, and, where a consortium or a State council conducts the test, that body's notification.
Where students actually enter
Consortium seats and State seats
National Law Universities commonly fill undergraduate integrated seats through CLAT, run in connection with the Consortium of National Law Universities. That is a specific admissions machine. It is described as a test, not as a college list, in the . State universities and other colleges may use a State law entrance, or their own process. Telangana and Andhra Pradesh do not become CLAT because a student wants a five-year course. Read the form you are submitting. A five-year ambition can sit inside more than one conducting authority. The authority is the fact. The ambition is not.
School-leaver eligibility is a year's text
Eligibility for a school-leaver will speak about the qualifying board examination. This page refuses to print a percentage. Boards differ, relaxation categories differ, and the year's notification is short enough to read yourself. If a video states a universal minimum, ask for the notification paragraph. If there is no paragraph, the video invented a national rule. Age limits, where they exist, are similarly local to the year's text. Do not inherit one from a senior's form.
Recognition, attendance, and the Bar
The Bar Council of India sets standards for legal education and recognises universities whose degree in law can be a qualification for enrolment as an advocate. A five-year scheme that does not meet those standards is not rescued by being long. Read the Council's public rules and the university's approval position. Do not rely on a brochure's adjective "approved" without the document it points to. Internships, moot courts, and clinical papers, where the rules and the scheme require them, are part of the design. The number of weeks and the mandatory subjects are in those texts. Copying a number from a blog into your plan will not make the university accept it.
Later enrolment is not folded into the degree. You do not become an advocate on the convocation day. The sketch of that later step, still without form numbers or fees, is in . Until then, the useful student skill is reading the prescribed Act rather than a summary. That is what the catalogue course actually trains.
A hypothetical about a prefix chosen for a job title
Hypothetical. Ishan's family wants BBA LLB because they believe the letters BBA produce a corporate job and BA LLB produces only litigation. No such mechanism exists. Employers and chambers look at the law degree's recognition, at how the student reads and writes, and at their own hiring, which this page will not pretend to know. Ishan's real question is which non-law papers he is willing to attend for years, and whether that university's law papers and recognition are in order.
He reads two schemes. One has more economics. One has more political science. Both have contracts and constitutional law. He chooses the non-law papers he will not resent, and he checks recognition before he falls in love with a campus photograph. If the campus he wants uses CLAT, he reads the Consortium brochure. If it uses a State test, he reads that notification. He does not sit the wrong test because the prefix looked modern.
A checklist for a school-leaver's file
Keep one file for the programme and a different file for the test. 1. Name the degree exactly as the university prints it, including the prefix. 2. Read the scheme's law papers and non-law papers, and note the year each cluster begins. 3. Read recognition material from the Bar Council of India and the university, not from an advertisement. 4. Identify the admission test, if any, and download that year's notification. 5. Copy eligibility from the notification. Leave cutoffs blank if they are not there. 6. Refuse any claim that the prefix guarantees a career. 7. Confirm on the official authority for the year you are applying, and write the date.
A file that contains only a coaching centre's rank list is not this checklist. Rank lists without the brochure are marketing. You can want a National Law University and still refuse a fake safe score.
Catalogue, stated without a programme for sale
Kanoons Academy does not currently list a separate LAWCET, CLAT, or AP LAWCET batch in the catalogue; these notes are study material, and counselling is via . There is no 5-year integrated law product here either. The nearest catalogue course is . That course teaches how to read an Act, a rule, and a judgment note. It is not an integrated degree, and the button on this page uses the course's own name.
The degree is a long school. It does not, by its length, place you in a firm or a court. Read the scheme. Read the recognition. Then decide.
Frequently asked questions
Is 10+2 enough to start?
The ordinary design is entry after higher secondary school. The marks, subjects, and age rules, if any, are in the institution's admission notification for the year. Do not take them from this page.
Which prefix should I pick?
BA, BBA, and BCom describe the non-law papers. The law core is why the degree can lead toward enrolment, if recognition is in place. Read the comparison note and then the university scheme. No prefix guarantees a job.
Do National Law Universities only offer the integrated route?
Many of their undergraduate seats are integrated courses filled through the Consortium's CLAT process. Check the year's brochure. Do not treat that as a rule for every college in India.
Is the course automatically recognised?
No. Recognition is a Bar Council of India and university question. An advertisement is not recognition. Read the public material before you pay.
Can I exit after the non-law years with a BA?
Only if that university's scheme and the regulators allow an exit. Do not assume an exit option exists because another campus offers one.
Does the academy teach the five years?
No. There is no integrated LLB in the catalogue. The nearest course is Reading a Statute.
