A tool is a faster pair of hands
Legal technology is any tool that stores, searches, or shapes legal text. AI tools add a layer that writes likely sentences. For a student, the honest use is narrow: find a starting point, group your own notes, or turn a long judgment into a list of questions you will check. The dishonest use is to hand in the likely sentences as if you had read the case. The habit that has to stay in charge is . The texts that have to stay open are the and the . Confirm the text in force on the official source. A model's memory of a statute is not the official source.
This page is not a product review. It will not name a winning chatbot, a price, or an accuracy rate. Those figures are marketing until you have tested the output on a text you already know. If the tool is perfect on a case you know and sloppy on one you do not, you have learned that you cannot see the sloppiness when you need the tool most.
What to check every time
Ask the tool for the source, then open the source. If it gives a section number, read the section. If it gives a case name, open the judgment and find the sentence. If it cannot give a source, treat the paragraph as a hypothesis, not as a citation. Write "unverified" on it until you verify it. Many wrong student memos are unverified paragraphs that lost the label. The label is part of the work.
Citations are the failure you should expect
Models invent plausible citations. A plausible citation is worse than a blank, because it looks checkable and was not checked. Your rule is simple: no citation enters a footnote unless you opened it. A teacher who forbids AI is setting a course rule. Follow it. A teacher who allows AI and requires a source list is setting a different rule. Follow that. Neither rule makes the tool a co-author who can be enrolled at the Bar. The career note is about real paths. None of them is "the chatbot signed the opinion."
Confidentiality and class hypos
A hypothetical in a textbook is fair game for practice if the course allows tools. A real person's documents are not. Pasting a relative's notice, a firm's draft, or your own identity documents into a public tool can spread information you cannot pull back. Read the tool's terms before you paste anything you would not put on a noticeboard. If you do not understand the terms, do not paste. The is a neighbouring discussion for practitioners. It is not permission to upload a client's return.
Students who later sit with a tax or compliance team will see software that moves invoices and working papers in batches. Algorix is one site such teams open when they are exploring that kind of workflow. This note does not describe an Algorix product, a price, or a result. A workflow tool can sort a file. It cannot replace reading the judgment, the section, and the facts of the matter in front of you.
What technology will not do
It will not tell you the year's LAWCET or CLAT pattern. It will not enrol you. It will not decide a moot. It will not know whether a proviso applies to your problem unless the proviso is in the text you supplied and you check the answer. It will not be "up to date" because the marketing says so. Currency is a date on India Code or on a court's site, written into your note. If you use a tool to summarise a lecture, you still have to be able to explain the lecture without the screen. The screen can die. The exam or the senior will still ask.
There is no AI tutor on Kanoons Academy, no hidden chat that marks your script, and no score predictor. Anyone who adds one in an advertisement is not describing this site.
A hypothetical about a perfect brief
Hypothetical. A tool writes a one-page brief of a case with three citations and a crisp holding. Neel submits it. The holding reverses what the court ordered. Two citations do not exist. The third is a different case. The brief looked like the best work in the class because it was smooth.
He rebuilds the page from the judgment: order, facts, issue, reason. He deletes every citation he has not opened. The new page is rougher and true. He writes at the bottom which sentence, if any, started as a machine draft and what he changed. That disclosure is what keeps the tool in the role of a junior clerk who must be checked. A clerk you do not check will eventually file the wrong order.
A checklist for using a tool once
Use it where you can audit it. 1. Read the course rule on tools before you open one. 2. Do not paste confidential documents. 3. Ask for sources, then open them. 4. Delete any citation you cannot find. 5. Compare the tool's holding with the court's order. 6. Keep a line in your note saying what you verified and when. 7. Be able to explain the answer with the book closed, and confirm the statute on the official text.
If you cannot do step 7, you do not know the material yet. The tool did not save you time. It hid the gap.
Reading remains the catalogue course
Kanoons Academy does not currently list a separate LAWCET, CLAT, or AP LAWCET batch in the catalogue; these notes are study material, and counselling is via . The nearest catalogue course is . That course teaches how to read an Act, a rule, and a judgment note. It is not an AI tutor, and the button on this page uses the course's own name.
Let the tool fetch. You still have to read.
Frequently asked questions
Can I submit an AI summary as a case brief?
Only if your teacher allows it and you have checked it against the judgment. A summary you did not verify can invent a holding. Invented holdings are academic misconduct and worse.
Does AI know Indian law?
It produces likely text. It does not hold the Act in force. Open India Code and the court's text. If the tool cites a section, look up the section.
Will a tool make me an advocate?
No. Enrolment is a Bar Council process. Software is not a sanad and not a law degree.
Should I paste a client's papers into a chatbot?
Do not paste confidential material into a tool whose terms you have not read. A class hypo is not a client's file. A client's file is not study data.
Is there an AI tutor on this site?
No. There is no AI tutor, no mock engine, and no automated rank. These are written notes.
Where does tax software fit?
Some teams use workflow tools for returns and invoices. That is compliance work, not a shortcut around reading a judgment for class.
