A second degree, built around law
A 3-year LLB is a bachelor of laws taken after you already hold a degree in some other discipline. The three years are the ordinary length of that graduate-entry design in India. They are not a promise that every university's calendar has the same number of semesters, vacations, or clinical hours. The university's scheme, read for the year you join, is the calendar. The Bar Council of India publishes standards for legal education. Those standards and the university's syllabus have to be read together. This note will not invent an attendance percentage, an internship length, or a fee.
People use the phrase when they already finished college and do not want to start again at the higher-secondary door. That door is the . Putting the two side by side, without ranking them, is the job of the . If you are still choosing an entrance booklet, start from , because the nickname hides different conducting bodies. Confirm on the official authority for the year you are applying before you treat an eligibility line as yours.
What you study, in kind rather than in a fake credit table
You should expect core public law and private law: constitutional ideas, contracts, criminal law as it stands, property, family law in its personal-law diversity, and procedural and evidence texts. The names and the semester order are the university's. A subject note on this site, such as a constitutional explainer, is a reading aid. It is not the paper you will be examined on. Clinical work, moot courts, and drafting, where the scheme includes them, are skills rather than a stack of cases to memorise. The skill notes on reading a statute and reading a judgment are the nearest practice this academy actually publishes.
Which criminal text the paper means
Do not demand a single national weekly timetable. One university teaches family law in year two. Another splits it. One still prints older code names in a reading list because the press has not caught up. The criminal law in force is the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, with the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam beside it. Older books say IPC, CrPC, and the Evidence Act. Your exam follows the university's prescribed text for that paper. Ask which text, and read that text. Do not invent a conversion chart of section numbers.
Skills the scheme may require
Clinical papers, moots, and drafting appear when the scheme and the regulator's standards include them. The length of an internship and the list of compulsory papers are in those documents. A blog's number is not a substitute. Use the time to learn how an Act is organised. That reading skill transfers to every paper. A summary that never opens the Act will fail the moment the question quotes a proviso.
Admission is not the degree, and the degree is not the Bar
Where a State fills seats through a law common entrance test, the notification for that State and that year decides eligibility and the use of the result. This page does not copy Telangana or Andhra Pradesh cutoffs, and it does not pretend every 3-year seat in the country uses the same test. Some universities run their own process. Read the process that will actually take your form. A National Law University seat is usually a different conversation, often the Consortium's CLAT, and often the integrated route rather than this graduate-entry one. Do not assume a CLAT rank is a 3-year LLB application.
Recognition is the next document. The Bar Council of India recognises universities whose law degree can qualify a person to seek enrolment as an advocate. A glossy advertisement is not that recognition. After a recognised degree, enrolment is with a State Bar Council, under the Advocates Act and the rules you must read on the Bar Council's site. This note does not invent form numbers or fees. The path is sketched, still without a job promise, in . A degree is necessary in that path. It is not sufficient, and it is not a placement.
A hypothetical about a career-changer
Hypothetical. Ruth has a commerce degree and a job. She wants a 3-year LLB in the evening of her week and assumes every university offers a part-time version with the same recognition as a full-time scheme. Some universities offer flexible contact. Not all of those offerings meet the Bar Council's standards for a degree that can lead to enrolment. Ruth's question is not "which poster is friendly." It is "which scheme does the university run, and what does the Bar Council's public position say about that kind of delivery."
She reads the scheme's papers and the recognition note before she resigns. She does not ask a chat group whether a weekend format is "basically fine." If the format is not one she can verify, she does not join it in the hope that verification will be kind later. Hope is not a qualification. The comparison with staying in commerce and never studying law is allowed. The comparison with a cousin's 5-year course, which that cousin started at eighteen, is a different life, not a better or worse badge.
A checklist before you apply
Keep the documents distinct. 1. Confirm you are looking at graduate-entry law, not an integrated course after school. 2. Read the university scheme for papers, duration as that scheme states it, and mode of teaching. 3. Read the admission notification that this university actually uses, including any entrance test, and copy eligibility from that PDF. 4. Check Bar Council of India recognition for the purpose you care about, in the Council's public material. 5. Refuse any cutoff, fee, or attendance figure you cannot point to. 6. Separate admission, the degree, and later enrolment as three steps. 7. Confirm on the official authority for the year you are applying, whether that authority is the university, a State council, or both.
If a consultant offers a seat without showing those documents, you are not looking at an admission. You are looking at a story. Lists of "best colleges" are stories unless they cite the year's official information. This page will not become one of those lists.
What the catalogue can teach you instead
Kanoons Academy does not currently list a separate LAWCET, CLAT, or AP LAWCET batch in the catalogue; these notes are study material, and counselling is via . There is also no LLB-subject product and no 3-year LLB programme on sale here. The nearest catalogue course is . That course teaches how to read an Act, a rule, and a judgment note. It is not an LLB, and the button on this page uses the course's own name.
Work after the degree is discussed, without placement rates, in . Nothing on this page promises a chamber, a firm, or a judicial posting. It promises only a clearer picture of what the degree is and of the documents you still have to read.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a degree before a 3-year LLB?
The ordinary design is graduate entry. The precise qualifying degree and any minimum are in the university scheme and, if you use an entrance test, in that year's notification. This note does not print a cutoff.
Is a 3-year LLB inferior to a 5-year course?
They are different entry points. Neither length is a guaranteed job or a guaranteed rank. Compare them on time, cost at your university, and the papers in the scheme you will actually attend.
Which entrance test applies?
Whichever the college's admission process uses. Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and the Consortium of NLUs are different authorities. Read the notification for the seat you want.
Does the degree enrol me as an advocate?
No. Enrolment is a later regulated step. A degree from a university the Bar Council of India recognises for that purpose is part of the path, not the whole path.
Can you list colleges that offer it?
No. A college list here would go stale and would look like an endorsement. Use the university and the admission authority's own information.
Is there a 3-year LLB course in the academy catalogue?
No. The catalogue does not list an LLB programme. The nearest course is Reading a Statute. Counselling is on the contact page.
