Two doors, not two ranks
The comparison people want is a winner. There isn't one this page will award. A 3-year LLB, described in the , starts after a degree you already hold. A 5-year integrated course, described in the , starts after school and includes non-law papers. Time-to-degree is different because the starting line is different. A student who begins at eighteen and a graduate who begins at twenty-two are not slow or fast versions of each other. They are on different clocks.
Use the comparison to choose a door you can actually enter. If you have not finished school, the graduate-entry door is not open yet. If you already hold a degree, you do not need to pretend you are a school-leaver unless a particular integrated scheme invites graduates, which you must verify. Confirm on the official authority for the year you are applying. Prestige language from a coaching poster is not an authority.
What is actually different
Write two columns: entry qualification, length as the scheme states it, non-law papers, admission test, and recognition. Fill each cell from a document. Empty cells stay empty. The non-law papers are the obvious difference. The integrated course asks you to study arts, business, or commerce alongside law. The 3-year course assumes that other study already happened somewhere else, in a subject that may have nothing to do with law. Neither arrangement makes you a better advocate by arithmetic.
Admission tests do not follow the length
A five-year seat at a National Law University is often reached through CLAT. A three-year seat at a State university may be reached through that State's law entrance. Some colleges use neither. The length of the degree does not tell you the test. The stops you merging Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and the Consortium. Pick the seat, then the test. Do not pick a test because a friend said five-year students take the harder one.
Recognition is a property of the degree, not of the years
The Bar Council of India recognises universities whose law degree can qualify a person to seek enrolment. A long unrecognised scheme does not beat a shorter recognised one. A short scheme that fails the Council's standards does not become acceptable because it is efficient. Read the public material for the campus you are considering. An advertisement's word "approved" needs a document behind it. Later enrolment steps are outlined, without forms or fees, in . Both routes, when they are proper degrees, still meet that later gate. Neither skips it.
Money, city, and career are the wrong deciders here
Fees differ by university and by year. This note will not print one, because a printed fee becomes a lie. Cost is a reason in your own budget once you have the university's figure. City is a reason in your own life. It is not a reason to invent doorway pages for towns. Career is the weakest decider of all. Litigation, in-house work, and further study are not assigned by the number of years. The prefix on an integrated degree is a separate choice, handled in the . Do not stack that choice on top of a fake ranking of lengths.
If someone promises that five years "places" you and three years does not, ask them for the placement definition and the cohort. They will not have one this page is willing to repeat. Absence of a rate is honesty, not an omission to be filled with a guess.
A hypothetical about a family argument
Hypothetical. A family in Hyderabad has one child finishing school and one who has just finished a science degree. An uncle says the younger child must take five years because it is the modern route, and the older child has "missed law." The older child has not missed the graduate door. The younger child is not modern by suffering two extra years of a course the older child is not eligible to start in the same way.
They should sit with two schemes and two admission notices, if both are applying. The school-leaver reads the integrated scheme and its test. The graduate reads the 3-year scheme and its test. They compare recognition, papers, and their own willingness to study. They do not compare a single coaching rank. If only one of them wants law, the other does not need a law degree to keep the family peaceful. This page is not a family mediator. It is a way to stop the uncle's sentence from replacing the notifications.
A checklist for the decision
Decide with documents. 1. State which door your present qualification can open. 2. Read one 3-year scheme and one integrated scheme only if both are real options. 3. Name the admission test for each seat, or write that the university's own process applies. 4. Check recognition for each campus in official material. 5. Write the fee only after you copy it from the institution, and do not copy it into a blog. 6. Refuse any sentence that guarantees a job from the length. 7. Confirm on the official authority for the year you are applying before you pay.
If the checklist has empty recognition cells, you are not ready to choose. Fill them. A campus tour is not a recognition cell.
No programme is being sold by the comparison
Kanoons Academy does not currently list a separate LAWCET, CLAT, or AP LAWCET batch in the catalogue; these notes are study material, and counselling is via . There is no 3-year or 5-year LLB for sale here. The nearest catalogue course is . That course teaches how to read an Act, a rule, and a judgment note. It is not either degree, and the button on this page uses the course's own name.
Choose the door your documents support. Do not choose a winner this article refused to name.
Frequently asked questions
Which one do firms prefer?
This page will not invent a preference. Hiring is the employer's. Recognition of the degree and your ability to read and draft matter more than a slogan about five years versus three.
Is the 5-year course just the 3-year course plus college?
No. It is an integrated scheme with its own non-law papers and its own entry. Read both designs before you treat them as the same degree started earlier.
Can a graduate join a 5-year course?
Only if that institution's rules allow it. Do not assume graduate entry into an integrated course, and do not assume it is forbidden, without the year's text.
Do both routes lead to the Bar?
Both can, if the degree is one the Bar Council of India treats as a qualification for enrolment and you then complete the State Bar Council process. The route's length does not skip that process.
Which entrance test is harder?
They are often different tests. Difficulty is not a fact this note will rank. Read the notification for the seat you want.
Will the academy tell me which to pick?
No. These are study notes. A conversation about catalogue courses, not a seat, is on the contact page.
